Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Sheriff Rating?

A Sheriff Rating is a rating that reflects the overall public opinion of a particular business, service, product, idea or person.

For example, if a hundred members of the public rate their local plumber and 98% of them give that plumber a positive rating and 2% give that plumber a negative rating, then the Sheriff Rating would be 98%, which reflects the overall percentage of positive ratings.

This percentage is then shown using star rating system, which is shown below:

5 Star Sheriff Rating
5 stars are equal to 100% positive ratings = Excellent

4 Star Sheriff Rating
4 stars are equal to 95% - 99.99% positive ratings = Good

3 Star Sheriff Rating
3 stars are equal to 90% - 94.9% of positive ratings = Above Average

2 Star Sheriff Rating
2 stars are equal to 80% - 89.9% of positive ratings = Average

1 Star Sheriff Rating
1 stars are equal to 70% - 79.9% of positive ratings = Poor

How Does Sheriff Ratings Work For The Public?

The Sheriff Rating System allows the public to choose a business, product or service based on the ratings left by other members of the public.

It also provides the public with a tool to leave ratings on a business or service to reflect the value of a service or product they have received.

Sheriff Ratings is 100% FREE so there is no favouritism shown to any business, as a good rating can only be earned by good public feedback and not by any other means.

The system aims to wipe out peoples fears of rogue businesses through a pure brand of trust.

How Do I Search For A Business, Product Or Service?

There are a few ways you can search for a business, product or service:

You can use the search fields, which are on both the home page and the member's area page.

You can also search using the category lists, which can be accessed from both the home page and the member's area page. Click Here for more Search Tips

The quickest way though is if you already know the Sheriff Code for the business, product or service in question. You can type this into the 'called' search field, which again is on both the home page and the member's area page.

How Do I Leave a Rating?

To leave feedback, you will have to register to become a member. This way ratings can be fairly monitored so that businesses have a fair chance of getting an honest rating.

Once logged in the member's section you can easily search for a business or product and then leave a rating.

We suggest that you try to fill in as much information in the available boxes as possible, such as what you paid for, invoice number, and how much you paid so that we can verify your rating if a dispute were to arise.

We would also advise that you leave a rating considering all of the good and bad aspects of your experience as well as leaving the overall positive, neutral or negative rating.

For example, if you were leaving feedback on a restaurant, here is the type of rating you might leave:

Example of how to leave

feedback on Sheriff Ratings.com

In this example you can see that there are several aspects, which reflect the experience but overall the rating was positive. This allows the restaurant to adjust the service accordingly but stick to what it was doing right, which would be the quality of the food and the politeness of the staff.

When Two or more businesses have the same Sheriff Rating, who goes Top?

When 2 or more businesses have the same Sheriff Rating the position is first decided by the overall percentage of positive ratings, which can be found on the business profile page when you click on the business name.

If this is still the same the business with more positive to neutral ratings goes top i.e. if one business has 15 ratings and has 11 positive and 4 neutrals and one has 15 ratings but 12 positive and 3 neutrals the business with 12 positive goes top.

This is thought to be the fairest way to decide list position as the more positive ratings you receive the harder it becomes to maintain a high Sheriff Rating.
